JOB DESCRIPTION:
IT sourcing manager is a strategic role that continually assesses business needs, financials and the technology vendor market to determine the best options and sources of supply for the organization.
The role is responsible for:
- Defining technology sourcing strategies for IT products, services, solutions and digital platforms aligned to business unit objectives and priorities.
- Working closely with stakeholders to lead major sourcing programs, including collaborative relationships with procurement teams and overall project management.
- Developing and managing a high-performance technology sourcing team responsible for supporting all technology supplier-related and sourcing-related functions.
- Keeping abreast of industry trends that have an impact on the technology sourcing strategy, through external advisory services, internal vendor management teams and good working relationships with existing and emerging strategic vendors used by the enterprise.
- Presenting all pertinent supplier and/or industry trends to stakeholders and immediate management, and proposing updates and improvements to existing strategies.
The head of technology sourcing must also be an effective change agent, working with senior leadership within the business and IT teams to drive enduring changes to how the organization sources technology. In this role, the individual will regularly interact with key IT leaders and business leaders to balance cost, risk and speed in order to ensure that the business is able to realize its objectives. The skills to influence and drive change, combined with the drive to deliver results per the goals set, will enable the head of technology sourcing to support the rapid evolution of digital business.
A key success prerequisite for this important sourcing role is strong management skills that include:
- Driving the technology sourcing strategy for IT products, services and solutions

- Establishing technology sourcing frameworks that balance cost, risk and speed
- Establishing metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the technology sourcing team
- Developing strong relationships across IT and business unit stakeholder groups, including procurement and vendor management functions, while informing and promoting the sourcing process
- Identifying cost optimization opportunities across the company/globe and present a concise business case/plan to management
Primary Responsibilities and Activities
The individual in this position will be responsible for the following:
- Technology sourcing organization leadership:

- Develop and communicate a clear mission, vision and guiding principles for the technology sourcing organization to align with and support the IT and business strategy.
- Ensure the development and maturity of key sourcing competencies, such as business relationship management, senior stakeholder management, category planning, analytics, project management, finance or statistics, and executive communication, through training programs and mentoring.
- Advance the sourcing organization’s skills that support business agility, speed and risk management, through automation or the adoption of new technology and leveraging internal and external data sources.
- Manage projects against an approved plan and objectives to ensure that commitments are met by monitoring, assessing and resolving variances in budget, timing or quality of work.
- Make recommendations and provide proactive and pertinent input to technology sourcing options as they relate to stakeholder financial goals and plans.
- Develop technology sourcing talent through succession planning, training and mentoring of direct reports.
